EPW - Benjamin Sidey, London, gold cylinder fusee quarter-hour repeater, 51mm, 18-22K gold OF original pair cases with attractive engraving detail and pierced for sound transmission, outer without markings, bell of inner not removed to inspect for possible hallmarks or maker's mark, white enamel dial, slide under dial at 7 for dumb repeat function, KWKS, cylinder escapement, gilt mvt with pierced and foliate scrolled balance cock, diamond endstone, signed gilt locking dust-cap, s#4397. Gross weight of assembled watch 87.2 dwt (135.7 g).
CONDITION:
Mvt: NR, chain detached from fusee and visible portion is wrapped under barrel, frequent good repeat function and tone but with occasional failures to initiate which require an additional firm squeeze of the depressed pendant which causes strike to initiate and progress properly, dumb repeat function operating only if slide at 7 is firmly held in clockwise position, overhaul needed, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, good gilt tone, some scattered scratches and abrasions; excellent dial with small flake left of opening latch at 6, some small surface nicks and scratches around center; excellent hands; outer case shows medium wear, some dents to rear, reduced engraving detail, button latch good; inner case shows little wear, some nicks, no dents or dings, good engraving detail; bow pivots freely; domed glass crystal with fine to micro-fine scratches.
